In a top-level management rejig, two senior executives at online marketplace Flipkart have left the company. Sameer Nigam, head of engineering at Flipkart, will start his own venture, and Amod Malviya, CTO, will move to an advisory role.
The two departures were shared with the Flipkart employees in an e-mail sent by Mukesh Bansal. In an internal letter to his employees accessed by FE, Mukesh Bansal, head of commerce, Flipkart, said, “Amod has played a key role in building a world-class technology team at Flipkart. Amod led the technology vision that he created for engineering, data and the-then CTO organisation. He will join the recently-constituted advisory board of Flipkart.”
Malviya, in his new advisory role, will guide Flipkart on technology aspects. He will join Sudhir Sitapati of Unilever who was recently appointed to Flipkart’s advisory board.
Nigam, who owned a distribution platform Mime360, joined Flipkart after it was acquired by Flipkart in 2011.
“Sameer has been the most versatile leader Flipkart has seen. From running Digital marketing to leading product & engineering — he has done a fantastic job at Flipkart. Sameer is stating a new venture in the technology space,” Bansal said.
Flipkart has done a series of changes in its top-level management, including an array of high-profile hiring. After the acquisition of Myntra, its founder Mukesh Bansal was handled the responsibility of running the portal. It recently hired Motorola product manager Punit Soni as its chief product officer, while Peeyush Ranjan from Google was brought on board as head of engineering.
The founders, Sachin and Binny Bansal, have also taken new roles. Sachin will take care of new businesses and innovation, whereas, Binny is focusing on supply-chain.
