The Renault Triber is a unique car – it’s India’s only sub-4 metre MPV with 5+2 seats, and the only MPV whose top model on-road is less than Rs 10 lakh, making it is a great value for large families on a budget.
It was first launched in 2019, and the new facelift model has arrived now.

What are the changes?

Changes in the 2025 model are substantial – a new front fascia with gloss-black grille and new Renault logo, sleek LED projector headlights, new stylised 15-inch wheels, and colour options such as shades of amber and grey. The cabin has been upgraded with a refreshed dashboard featuring a floating 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual gloveboxes, and practical features like a sliding and reclining second row with one-touch tumble seats for easier access to the third row. Top-end variants get cruise control, auto LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, auto-folding ORVMs, and a 360-degree camera system. It gets six airbags as standard, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and rear parking sensors.

How’s the drive?

Driving performance is average. It has the 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated 3-cylinder petrol engine (72 bhp, 96 Nm), which is noisy and sluggish. My test unit was the AMT (automated manual transmission), and it takes time to shift gears and feels powerless while overtaking long vehicles. It’s great to drive in slow-moving city traffic, though, as it returns good fuel efficiency (13-15 km/litre real world) and doesn’t tire you at all. But feels lethargic on highways. The steering is light and seems to be tuned for city use, and feels disconnected at highway speeds.

What makes it unique?

The Triber features a clever modular seating arrangement, allowing you to convert it from a 5-seater to a 6-seater or a 7-seater. If you completely remove the third row, the Triber offers you the maximum space for any sub-4 metre car – it opens up a huge 625 litres of boot space. Despite being an MPV, it’s got city-friendly dimensions, and can be driven even in the tiniest of lanes.

The GST benefit

Although all cars have gotten GST benefits, the Triber is the only 7-seater MPV to get ‘small car GST benefits’. Ex-showroom prices of the entry-level Authentic variant have been reduced from Rs 629,995 to Rs 576,300, and those of the top-end Emotion AMT DT model from Rs 939,995 to just Rs 859,800, making it the only MPV in India to be available less than Rs 10 lakh on-road. That kind of value possibly covers any imperfections this car has.
