Larsen & Toubro’s (L&T) Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical has bagged multiple orders in Saudi Arabia worth between Rs 2,500 – 5,000 crore. The ‘large’ contracts involve building a 380 kV substation and associated transmission lines to strengthen the country’s grid network.
L&T wins Saudi grid orders
The first contract is for setting up a 380/33 kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS). The project scope includes installation of hybrid GIS components, 380 kV transformers and reactors, and subsystems for protection, control, automation, telecommunication, HVAC and firefighting.
The second set of contracts covers the construction of 380 kV overhead transmission lines spanning over 420 km. These will enhance grid connectivity and help integrate renewable energy sources into Saudi Arabia’s electricity network.
The orders come under Saudi Arabia’s National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP), which aims to expand the country’s renewable capacity and upgrade its grid to handle increased clean energy generation.
