HCLTech has announced its plan to acquire specific intellectual property (IP) and research and development (R&D) assets from Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). This strategic move is designed to enhance HCLTech’s capabilities in the telecom engineering services sector, particularly focusing on business support systems (BSS), network applications, service cloudification, and data intelligence.

By integrating these assets, HCLTech aims to enrich its service offerings, merging them with its existing digital technologies that utilise artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and data-driven methodologies. This acquisition is set to elevate HCLTech’s position in the market by enhancing operational efficiency and promoting seamless integration across an extensive partner ecosystem.

The assets from HPE include pioneering intellectual property and technology solutions, which are expected to bring a competitive edge to HCLTech’s portfolio. These are primarily assets carved out from HPE’s Communications Technology Group (CTG), enhancing HCLTech’s engineering capabilities to better serve global Communication Service Providers (CSPs).

Meanwhile, HPE will retain the Operations Support Systems (OSS) part of its business, which falls under the HPE Aruba Networking segment. This unit is known for its expertise in OSS, orchestration, assurance, public 5G Service Delivery Management (SDM), and private 5G networking solutions, continuing to support HPE’s telecom customers and partners.

This acquisition, pending regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, is expected to be finalised within 6 to 9 months.
