Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) has signed a technology transfer agreement with the German conglomerate Hensoldt AG for sensors and guidance systems. It signed the pact at the Dubai Airshow.

In a statement, the public sector company announced that it had received Intellectual Property Rights for the manufacturing of an Obstacle Guidance System and a Degraded Visual Environment for helicopters.

HAL – Hensoldt AG partnership synergies

HAL stated that this partnership will enhance the indigenous ecosystem for developing technology for obstacle collision avoidance systems in India.

DK Sunil, Chairman and Managing Director at HAL, said that the agreement will ensure that India develops and owns a LiDAR-based helicopter Obstacle Avoidance System—an advanced capability that only a few countries have mastered.

“HAL and HENSOLD will collaborate on the design, manufacture, integration, and testing of this system, with the potential for export of OAS and DVE”, Sunil added.

HAL’s Tejas jets delivery timeline

HAL is expected to deliver the first batch of 8 Tejas Mk1A aircraft within the next 24-36 months, according to a Moneycontrol report. The report added that the production is expected to remain slower in the first 2-3 years and will ramp up in the later phase as HAL’s production line gains momentum.

In September, Hindustan Aeronautics signed a contract worth Rs 62,400 crore with the Defence Ministry for the supply of 97 Tejas Mk1A fighter jets. For this purpose, the public sector company signed a contract with the American company General Electric for 113 units of F404-GE-IN20 engines.
