When the much-awaited tenders for the Rs 4,089-crore Vizhinjam port project were opened on Friday, it turned out that only Adani Ports had submitted a bid. After the February 20 shock of no bidders, the Kerala government had extended the deadline to April 24.
Adani’s tender will be examined by a panel comprising the joint secretary of the ports department and the managing director and secretary of the company. The recommendations will be sent to the empowered committee, chaired by the chief secretary. This will be reviewed by a board chaired by the chief minister and the final decision will be taken by the state cabinet, sources said.
With the deadline extension, it is hoped that as the Centre has assured concessions in the cabotage law, other firms that bought the application will also submit tenders.
