Modi US Visit Live Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in New York on the first leg of his official State visit to the United States. He will now be kick-starting the much-hyped 4-day mega tour to the US today where he will be signing various deals for better cooperation across sectors. US-India defence partnership will take center stage with India set to procure US drones worth $3 billion. Modi chants have already filled the New York and euphoria has gripped the Indian diaspora with PM’s visit.
Modi was received at the airport by Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu and India’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ruchira Kamboj, as per PTI.
PM Modi has been invited to the States by President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. He is the first Indian leader who will be addressing the US Congress twice. This is PM Modi’s sixth trip to the US since 2014. However, this is his first State visit. For those unaware, State visit is considered as the highest form of diplomatic exchange between two countries.
PM Modi will be visiting the White House thrice during his four-day stay. Not many are aware of this but PM Modi is the third leader to receive a state visit invitation from US President Joe Biden.
Ahead of Modi’s departure on Tuesday, he said that his visit to the US is an opportunity for the two countries to enrich the depth and diversity of their partnership and asserted that both stand stronger together in meeting shared global challenges. Modi said this “special invitation” for a state visit is a reflection of the vigour and vitality of the India-US partnership.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will celebrate the International Day of Yoga on June 21 at the United Nations Headquarters with the UN leadership and members of the international community. Arrangements have also been made in different parts of the country to celebrate the occasion and spread awareness of the benefits of ancient Indian practice. (ANI)
Indian-American Congressman Shri Thanedar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US is “historic.” He called it an “honour” to escort PM Modi to his address at the joint session of the US Congress. In an exclusive interview with ANI, Shri Thanedar said, “This is an important visit and this is a historic visit. Not only this is important for the world's oldest democracy, which is the United States, and the largest democracy, which is India, but it's not just important for these two countries, it is also important for the world because peace in the India-Pacific region, Indian Ocean region, is very, very important. And this historic relationship will ensure that we have peace in that region.” “It is a great honour for me to be able to come and be able to escort Mr Modi to his historic address, to the joint session of the US. Congress,” Shri Thanedar said.
Hundreds of members of Indian diaspora had gathered outside Hotel Lotte to meet the Indian Prime Minister. Modi gracefully greeted the people with waves and smile and then went back inside the hotel. There's a series of meetings lined-up ahead. PM Modi will be staying in this hotel for the night and then kick start June 21 with a huge Yoga programme.
“The significance of this visit will be to showcase how broad the relationship is and how India and the US are discussing almost every big issue today. Hopefully, we will see some forward movement in defence co-production and defence trade in some critical areas that are very vital to Indian national security,” says Dhruva Jaishankar, Executive Director, ORF America, tells ANI.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a four-day visit to the US, received a rousing welcome on Tuesday from the Indian diaspora at the Hotel Lotte where he will be staying during his trip to New York. “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” slogans reverberated at the hotel as people from the Indian diaspora cheered and waved their flags seeing the Prime Minister. As people from the Indian diaspora cheered and proudly waved their flags upon seeing the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister also held a meeting with the Bora community in the hotel. (ANI)

POTUS Joe Biden has revealed that he has run out of tickets for the state dinner he will be hosting for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “From movie actors to relatives, all want to attend the dinner,” Biden said.
There will be discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Joe Biden on meaningful, tangible, deliverables in several different categories, including the development of people-to-people ties that will guide the relationship of the two countries in future, White House spokesperson John Kirby said on Tuesday PM Modi is on a state visit to the US and is expected to hold talks on various issues with President Biden. PM Modi has reached the Lotte Hotel in New York. He will lead a unique yoga session on Wednesday in a historic celebration to commemorate the 9th International Day of Yoga at the UN Headquarters here that will see participation from top UN officials, envoys from across and the world and prominent individuals.
As per recent media reports, PM Modi is likely to visit National Science Foundation with Jill Biden.
Narendra Modi took to Twitter after landing in the US and wrote, “Landed in New York City. Looking forward to the programmes here including interaction with thought leaders and the Yoga Day programme tomorrow, 21st June.”

As per PTI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be shortly arriving at the 'Lotte New York Palace' hotel. Modi is visiting the US from June 21-24 at the invitation of President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, who will host him at a state dinner on June 22. Global institutions such as the UN must change, PM Modi told WSJ, as he sought to link many of the world’s problems, including terrorism, proxy wars and expansionism, to a failure of global institutions created during the Cold War to adapt. “Look at the membership of key institutions—does it truly represent the voice of democratic values?” he said. “A place like Africa—does it have a voice? India has such a huge population and is a bright spot in the global economy, but is it present?”
