General Manoj Pande, the Chief of the Army Staff, spearheaded a significant milestone today, enhancing healthcare provisions for defense personnel and their families. In an important event, he inaugurated advanced facilities at the Army Hospital Research & Referral (AHRR) in Delhi and the cutting-edge Command Hospital Complex in Udhampur, marking a pivotal stride in bolstering medical infrastructure within the armed forces.
At the Army Hospital Research and Referral (AHRR) in Delhi Cantonment, General Pande inaugurated the Radiological Information & Digital Image Networking System, along with the expanded Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) & Sports Medicine.
Additionally, the ‘Niramaya- Wellness Clinic’ and ‘Aasra -Patient Detention Centre’ were unveiled, emphasizing AHRR’s premier status in armed forces healthcare.
Later in the day, General Pande virtually inaugurated the state-of-the-art, 650-bed Command Hospital Complex in Udhampur, constructed over 60 acres with a remarkable investment of Rs 274 Crore. Equipped with modern medical facilities, including eight advanced operation theaters, a comprehensive medical gas pipeline system, and central air conditioning, the hospital stands ready to serve personnel in the challenging terrains of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

According to sources in the defence and security establishment, environmental sustainability is at the forefront of the Command Hospital Complex’s design, with provisions for efficient water management through an effluent treatment plant and central sewage treatment plant. Beyond medical amenities, the Command Hospital Complex incorporates administrative spaces, residential accommodations, training facilities, and welfare amenities, ensuring holistic support for personnel and their families.
Earlier this year, in a press conference, the army chief highlighted the completion of digitization efforts across all military hospitals and the networking of over 110 hospitals using Dhanwantari Software.
Such initiatives are emblematic of the Indian Army’s commitment to embracing technology and enhancing healthcare delivery, making 2024 the “Year of Tech Absorption.”
