Johnson & Johnson has launched its TECNIS PureSee intraocular lens (IOL) in India. The lens is designed for individuals with presbyopia and features a purely refractive design. The product is intended to offer a solution for cataract patients seeking vision correction across multiple distances, including distance, intermediate, as well as functional near vision.
With its purely refractive design, the TECNIS PureSee IOL ensures surgeons’ ease of use in providing high tolerance to refractive error. The TECNIS PureSee IOL provides high contrast and low-light performance, with minimal visual disturbances such as halos, glares, and starbursts. This design is intended to reduce the need for spectacles after cataract surgery, increasing patient independence.
The introduction of the TECNIS PureSee IOL comes at a time when the aging population in India and Asia Pacific is growing. With cataracts being the leading cause of treatable blindness globally, the demand for cataract treatments is expected to rise.
By launching the TECNIS PureSee IOL in India, Johnson & Johnson aims to strengthen its position in the eye care market and respond to the increasing demand for advanced cataract treatment solutions. The launch is part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its presence in the vision care segment, with a focus on offering solutions for age-related eye conditions.
“Cataract surgery is the most common surgery performed globally, with 28 million procedures each year. But only 10-15% of patients are getting advanced optical IOLs specifically designed for addressing issues of astigmatism and presbyopia, said Burzin Shahana, Country Manager, Surgical Vision India & South Asia, Johnson & Johnson MedTech. “We’re proud to launch the TECNIS PureSee IOL, giving surgeons and a growing number of patients in India the choice of a premium IOL that combines clarity of vision and reduced visual symptoms.”
