E-commerce firm Meesho has announced the creation of around 12 lakh seasonal job opportunities across its seller and logistics ecosystem for the upcoming festive season, marking a 40% increase over last year’s hiring. Notably, more than 70% of these roles are expected to come from India’s tier-3 and tier-4 cities, underscoring the company’s growing reach in smaller markets.
Sellers scale up festive preparations
According to the company, sellers on the platform have onboarded nearly 5.5 lakh temporary workers to meet peak-season requirements. These seasonal hires are being trained in functions such as sorting, manufacturing, and packaging. In addition to workforce expansion, sellers have also undertaken measures such as curating festive collections, adding new product categories, and carrying out inventory checks to prepare for the surge in demand.
The additional manpower is expected to support sellers in managing higher order volumes during a period when Indian households traditionally spend more on apparel, electronics, home décor, and festive essentials.
Logistics hiring sees sharp growth
A larger share of festive hiring this year has come from logistics operations. Meesho, which partners with multiple third-party logistics (3PL) providers along with its own logistics arm Valmo, has facilitated the creation of 6.7 lakh seasonal roles in this segment. This represents a 90% increase over last year. The jobs include first-mile, middle-mile and last-mile delivery positions, with responsibilities such as picking, sorting, loading, unloading, and managing returns.
“The festive season is when many Indian households place their trust in e-commerce. In anticipation of this peak period, we have created over 12 lakh seasonal opportunities, with a significant share emerging from India’s tier-3 cities,” said Sourabh Pandey, CXO, Fulfilment and Experience, Meesho.
The seasonal push comes at a time when India’s e-commerce platforms are gearing up for an expected surge in demand during the festive quarter, with sales typically accounting for a major share of annual revenue.
