Weekends are all about downtime. After a week full of work to meet deadlines, everybody needs a breather to relax and recuperate. From watching a favourite web series to planning a vacation, weekends are designated as family and me time. Shahnaz Husain, Chief Managing Director, Shahnaz Husain Group of Companies, talks to BrandWagon Online about her weekends, favourite vacation destination and more.
What is the one thing you like to do when not working?
My leisure time is all about unwinding, relaxing and creating something that brings me immense joy. For me it is immersing myself in my creative pursuits of writing poetry that is an extension to my self-expression dipped in the ink of my heart. This is where I truly feel unbridled with my intellectual thought process expressing my deepest emotions in words. Another thing that I like to do is paint, the myriad world of colours is a fascinating way of self-expression and exploration of what one can imagine beyond the logical mind and its workings. My creative pursuits are my secret garden where I thrive, where I find my centre, a place where I rejuvenate mind, body and soul.
How do you spend your weekends?
After a hectic week full of numerous engagements, I like to reconnect and re-establish my bond with my family. It is the utmost important part of me, moreover, it serves as my haven, a source of love and care, my cocoon where beautiful bonds are meant to be appreciated on a daily basis. Whatever I am right now is all because of my strong family ties that define the way my life is. The importance of this timeless bond runs deep in the core of my heart, empowering me every second and every minute of the day to keep going, togetherness and as a unit that serves as my foundation. This is how I enjoy my weekends.
What are your favourite gadgets?
In this world of social media and instant reactions, I, too, am a fan of technology. I like to be on top of things, I like constantly being in the loop of things that are trending, public opinions, my fanbase and of course the beauty industry, so, for me, it’s my smartphone and other mobile devices that keep me connected online.
Given an option to choose another career, what would it be?
It is hard to even imagine something else other than where my heart belongs, beauty, Ayurveda, and wellness are my core and my soul mission. I have been so passionately driven towards the cause of enlightening people to the concept of turning towards nature and its cures in herbs that it is almost impossible for me to imagine something else other than this.
I would like to highlight the fact that one should always chase a dream that sets the soul on fire, it is there that you have your distinct calling and divine mission. I have been blessed to be able to become a pioneer in Ayurveda and bring the ancient knowledge of these principles, providing it within a jar of care & cure. What more could I ask for, and what more could I ever imagine beyond it.
Which is your favourite vacation spot?
I love London for its old-world charm, my dream world. Everything about the city has its own unique beauty. Hyde Park is so peaceful with its lush greenery and fresh air. I love watching the swans glide across the Serpentine Lake—it’s truly a sight to behold. And then there’s my life’s great love, Covent Garden, always alive with energy and street performers. It’s one of my favourite spots.
Shopping in London is another thing I adore. Whether it’s browsing high-end stores on Oxford Street and Carnaby Street or hunting for great finds at Petticoat Lane Market on Sundays, there’s something for everyone. That market stretches across streets lined with over a thousand shops—it’s amazing!
For me, London feels like a second home. I love grabbing a coffee at Starbucks in Trafalgar Square and just watching the city pass by. There’s so much to take in. The British Museum is another place I could spend hours in—it’s a treasure trove of history and art. There is Oxford Street, I really enjoy spending time there. Also love Piccadilly for the vibrant street performances and lively atmosphere.
Speaking about other destinations, Mykonos in Greece completely captivated me. The golden beaches, the clear blue skies—it’s all so stunning. And when night falls, the island turns into a vibrant party with incredible nightlife. It’s no wonder it’s such a popular dream destination.
Then there’s Hawaii in the US —pure magic. It offers the perfect mix of breathtaking scenery and rich cultural traditions. It’s a place that truly nourishes your soul while also giving you endless adventures.
A TV show, a movie, and an ad campaign you highly recommend watching?
Although I am not much of a person to be glued to the TV set, there are so many engagements that keep me busy throughout the day, but if you ask me specifically. I would like to mention that if I happen to watch TV, I tune into my favourite channel, India Today. It is a more happening channel.
I really enjoy India Today – its content is authentic and, more importantly, the information is factually correct.
But again, it is hard for me to elaborate or explain why this and not any other. It is more about my perception and my individual choice.
