Weekends are all about downtime. After a week full of work to meet deadlines, everybody needs a breather to relax and recuperate. From watching a favourite web series to planning a vacation, weekends are designated as family and me time. Abdus Samad, Founder & CEO, Sam and Marshall, Jaipur, talks to BrandWagon Online about his weekends, favourite vacation destination and more.
What is the one thing you like to do when not working?
Recently I have developed a love for building LEGO sets. It started as something casual but quickly became a regular part of my downtime. The process demands focus and creativity, which makes it both calming and satisfying. What makes it special is doing it with my family. I am always looking for ways to spend quality, engaging time together at home.
How do you spend your weekends?
Sundays are my time to slow down and recharge. I often head out for long drives around Delhi, enjoying the city’s mix of chaos and charm. The drive usually includes stops at favourite food spots, making it a small weekend ritual. I find it refreshing to be on the move yet not in a hurry. It is my way of starting the week on a lighter note.
What are your favourite gadgets?
Right now, I am fascinated by smart glasses. They are a perfect example of how style and technology can work together seamlessly. The idea of eyewear becoming more than just a fashion accessory excites me. As someone in the eyewear business, I keep a close watch on innovations in this space. I believe they will shape the way we think about accessories in the near future.
Given an option to choose another career, what would it be?
If I had not built Sam & Marshall, I would probably have been an athlete. Weightlifting was a major part of my life in the last decade. It taught me discipline, persistence, and the importance of pushing limits. Those lessons still guide me in my professional journey today. The focus and determination from sports translate beautifully into business.
Which is your favourite vacation spot?
Phi Phi Island is one of my all-time favourite destinations. I visited for a short holiday but was completely mesmerised. The clear blue waters and serene surroundings make it unforgettable. There is a calmness there that is hard to find elsewhere. It is the kind of place that lingers in your mind long after you leave.
A TV show, a movie, and an ad campaign you highly recommend watching
The Surf Excel campaign “Rang Laaye Sang” from 2019 tells a simple yet powerful story. A Hindu girl shields her Muslim friend from Holi colours so he can attend Friday prayers. She promises to colour him later, highlighting friendship and respect. The ad ends with the line “Agar kuch achha karne mein daag lag jaaye, toh daag achhe hain.”
