A SpiceJet flight carrying 160 passengers and crew members made a precautionary landing at Bagdogra airport on Tuesday morning after the pilot detected a technical issue.
The pilot informed air traffic control (ATC) of the issue and made a safe return to Bagdogra airport within 15 minutes of takeoff, where all passengers were safely disembarked as a precautionary measure. The flight was scheduled to take off at 8:10 am and reach Delhi by 10:15 am.
In response to the situation, a SpiceJet spokesperson reported that on July 30, 2024, a SpiceJet Boeing 737 aircraft operating a flight from Bagdogra to Delhi encountered a technical issue and returned to Bagdogra. The aircraft landed safely and normally, with no emergency landing involved. “We have arranged an alternate aircraft for the passengers,” the spokesperson added.
Airport officials stated that the aircraft, which returned due to the technical fault, will only be permitted to fly again after a complete safety check by the DGCA and other relevant authorities.
In June, passengers on a SpiceJet flight from Delhi to Goa faced significant delays at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport. The Delhi-Goa flight SG-211 was delayed for several hours due to operational reasons, as the aircraft scheduled for the flight had to be grounded following a technical issue.
Passengers reported multiple reschedulings of flight SG-211, which was initially scheduled to depart at 9:35 am. The departure time was first changed to 10:35 am, then to 11:00 am, and even at 11:00 am, the flight had not taken off. When passengers expressed their concerns to the airline staff, they were informed that the flight would now depart at 4:00 pm.
