Mumbai International Airport Limited announced that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) witnessed an impressive 131% recovery in passenger numbers compared to April 2019, before the pandemic. Additionally, the airport experienced strong growth in passenger traffic throughout April 2024.
Significant increase in passenger movement
In April 2024, CSMIA saw a significant movement of 4.36 million passengers, reflecting a 42% increase compared to April 2022 and a 9% rise from April 2023. This underscores its esteemed position as a premier global aviation hub.
The airport recorded a total of 26,870 Air Traffic Movements (ATMs), consisting of 19,892 domestic and 6,978 international ATMs. This marks a 24% increase compared to April 2022 (21,597) and a 5% rise compared to April 2023 (25,477).
On April 14th, the highest passenger traffic movement for the month was recorded at CSMIA, with 156,793 passengers passing through. This included 113,540 domestic and 43,253 international movements.
In April 2024, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport saw Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad rise to prominence as the leading domestic destinations. Meanwhile, Dubai, Singapore, and Abu Dhabi maintained their coveted positions as the most preferred international destinations.
Market share and baggage handling
Domestic carriers dominated both the domestic and international sectors, securing the top position in market share. Additionally, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) processed a total of 3.47 million bags during the month, reflecting an 11.61% year-on-year increase compared to April 2023 (3.11 million), the statement added.
Managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), a subsidiary of the Adani Group, Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL) operates as a Public-Private Partnership(PPP) venture. AAHL holds a majority stake of 74%, while the Airports Authority of India holds the remaining 26%.
