Good news for flyers! Budget carrier IndiGo is scheduled to launch its daily flight services connecting Gondia with Hyderabad from December 1. The announcement is expected to be made soon by the Gurugram-based airline.
Indigo resumes flight services
Commercial air services from Gondia airport were suspended in August 2022, when regional carrier flybig ceased its services just five months after their launch.
Flybig, a Gurugram-based airline promoted by Big Charter Private Ltd, had initiated passenger flight operations from Maharshtra’s Birsi, connecting Indore and Hyderabad under the central government’s regional connectivity scheme UDAAN. However, for unspecified reasons, the airline discontinued the route, leaving the airport without any commercial flights.
The UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme is a regional airport development program launched by the Government of India as part of the National Civil Aviation Policy 2016. The scheme aims to develop the regional aviation market, provide affordable air travel on regional routes to the common man even in small towns, and enhance connectivity to un-served and underserved airports.
IndiGo’s Expansion
IndiGo, India’s largest domestic airline, has been expanding its network across the country. The airline operates a fleet of 337 aircraft, including Airbus A320 CEO & NEO, the A321 NEO and the ATR 72-600 aircraft. The addition of the Gondia-Hyderabad route is part of this ongoing expansion.
With the resumption of services at Gondia airport, there is renewed hope for improved connectivity and economic growth in the region. The daily IndiGo flight services between Gondia and Hyderabad are set to commence from December 1, marking a significant milestone in the revival of commercial air services from Gondia airport.
