An IndiGo flight traveling from Mumbai to Ranchi was diverted to Kolkata on January 19 due to bad weather. The passengers who were onboard flight 6E-221 later complained that the airline staff refused to make arrangements for them even after promising otherwise on board.

False hotel stays promise

According to the passengers, they were given meals and the option of either a refund or an alternate flight. However, the staff later went back on their promise, the passengers claimed.

Vikram Srivastava, a passenger aboard the flight, took to social media to express that they were deceived with “false promises” of hotel accommodations and alternative flights before ultimately being asked to disembark.

“Ground Staff denied everything, except fare return in week, rice packet. Regulation allows dumping at 3rd location?” Srivastava wrote in a post on X. He further wrote that there were pregnant women and elderly people travelling on the plane, adding the Indigo team refused to help the passengers and asked them to take care of their own arrangements at a third location.

He also posted a video capturing a confrontation between IndiGo staff and frustrated passengers. IndiGo addressed Srivastava on X, expressing apologies for the inconvenience and assuring a thorough probe into the issue.

What more did IndiGo say?

IndiGo, India’s largest domestic airline, said the flight was diverted to Kolkata due to bad weather at Ranchi. It added that the passengers were given the “option of choosing another flight or receiving a refund”. “While some opted for another flight, others chose a refund. Additionally, all passengers were served meals at the Kolkata airport,” the airline added.
