After witnessing a decline of around 19% in 2007-08, Chennai-based two-wheeler major TVS Motors’ is eyeing a growth of 10-15% in the domestic market and another 40% in exports this year in the backdrop of its recently launched ‘Flame’ and other new models that will hit the roads in this fiscal.
“Till the last fiscal, TVS Motors was not present across all two-wheeler segments. However with the launch of 125cc Flame, the company now has a whole range of product portfolio and this will drive the healthy double-digit growth for the company in this fiscal as against the expected industry growth of 10-12%,” said HS Goindi, head (marketing), TVS Motors, adding that this higher growth is at a lower base as compared to other leading players in the industry.
“Further, the new launches that will include two scooters and two bikes, one each in the 125cc segment and the premium segment will further expand the company’s product portfolio,” adds Goindi while speaking at the launch of TVS Apache 160 RTR FI.
The new Apache, that costs Rs 6,000 more that the existing Apache and is priced at Rs 64,990, comes with a fuel injection technology, a first of its kind in any of the TVS bikes so far.
However, the company plans to extend this technology to other models, both the existing and the new ones after the response to the new bike. TVS Motors’ currently sells around 8,000 to 10,000 units of Apache in a month and the company is expecting an addition of another 500-1,000 units with the new variant.
According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), in 2007-08 TVS Motors’ domestic sales went down by 19.21% at 11,51,849 units while its exports grew by 33% to 1,37,012 units.
