Toll tax at Dappar toll tax plaza near Dera Bassi is slated to increase from September 1. This would mean the road journey between Chandigarh, Ambala and Delhi would become costlier. The rates have been revised in accordance with the government rules and will remain in force till August 31, 2011, when they will be revised again.

The new rates would require cars to pay an extra rupee for a single journey and Rs 2 more for a return journey as compared to the present tariff.

GMR Ambala-Chandigarh Expressways General Manager A K Patel said the company has revised the user fee as per the notification issued by the Government of India, authorising the company to collect the fee from highway users.

According to an amendment made in this notification, the fee to be charged from the commuters will be revised every year with effect from September 1, added the GM.

The company had built the four-laned 35-km-long Ambala-Chandigarh National Highway on build-operate-transfer basis for a concession period of two decades.

The company has been collecting toll tax ever since the highway was opened on December 10, 2008.

According to the revised rate list, car/jeep/vans will have to pay Rs 26 instead of the present Rs 25 for a single journey while for return journey within 24 hours, the charges would be Rs 39 instead of present Rs 37.

Buses and trucks will now pay Rs 91 and Rs 136 for single and return journeys respectively as compared to present rates of Rs 87 and Rs 131, respectively.
