DHL & CNBC-TV18 on Friday presented the second ?International Trade Award 08? at a glittering awards ceremony in Mumbai. Winners of the awards have been chosen after an extensive multi-stage selection process powered by, rating house ICRA.
While speaking on the occasion, Neel Chowdhury, vice-president, marketing, TV18, said, ?The International Trade awards is an unique platform to recognise the Indian exporters and importers who have performed exceptionally well in the dynamic market scenario.?
While the winners in the overall outstanding exporters of the year was Reliance Industries Ltd and Precision Valvetrain Pvt Ltd, award for the international trade house of the year went to The State Trading Corporation of India Ltd.
Ram Ratna International won the award for the emerging exporter of the year.
Alok Industries and Partibha Syntex Pvt Ltd bagged the award for outstanding exporters of the year ? textiles.
Other categories included outstanding exporter of the year ? metals for which Sterlite Industries India Ltd bagged the award. United Phosphorous Ltd and Godrej Industries were selected as the outstanding exporters of the year ? chemicals.
Hyundai Motor India Ltd and JK Tyre and Industries Ltd won the outstanding exporter of the year ? auto and auto ancillaries. Larsen & Tubro Ltd and Precision Valvetrain Pvt Ltd won the outstanding exporter of the year ? engineering and machine tools.
Craig Grossgart-country manager, DHL Express India said, ?Importers and exporters, both big and small, are a foundation for a strong economy. We believe that they are the brand ambassadors in taking the ?Made in India? label to the world.? He added that through these awards, the players who have set new benchmarks have been felicitated.
However, the nomination process was based on parameters like competitive scenario in Indian and global markets, market share compared to domestic and global competitors , among others.
It may be noted that in his budget speech 2008-09, finance minister P Chidambaram said that the year should be a year of consolidation; of securing the ongoing programmes on firm financial foundations; of close monitoring of implementation and enforcing accountability. While India stands at the threshold of economic development, foreign trade is definitely observed as a key player in India?s economic growth.
