The Tata group gained highest in terms of wealth during the last one year while Reliance Industries lost Rs 37,109 crore in the bourses.

The Adani group?s shares have been rising during last one year and it saw its rank go up from seventh to third.

This was revealed in a FE study of market capitalisation of India?s top 25 industrial houses (according to net sales) between December 1, 2009 and December 1, 2010.

Wealth of India?s top 25 industrial houses increased 20.9% to Rs 18.76 lakh crore on December 1, 2010 from Rs 15.51 lakh crore on December 1, 2009 on the back of market recovery.

During this period, Sensex increased by 2,651.73 points (15.2%) to 19,850 on December 1, 2010 from the level of 17,198.27 on December 1, 2009.

The Nifty also increased 16.4% during the above period.

Kishor P Ostwal, CMD, CNI Research, said , ?India grew at a hefty rate of 8.5% to 8.9% which has resulted in the rise of corporate earnings consequently rise in the Sensex.?

Nilesh Shah, DMD, Prudencial ICICI, also said, ?The Indian market has revived as investors have realised that economic fundamentals of India are in the same growth path like Japan in the 1960s and 1970 or South East Asian Nation in 1970 and 1980s or China since 1980s. The Indian equity markets were trading very cheap in September 2008 and September 2009 period due to global crisis. As investors realised that Indian economy is not impacted by the global prices. They still to invest ended up reviving Indian equity market from April 2009.?

On December 1, 2010, the top five houses according to M-Cap were the Tata group, Mukesh Ambani group, Adani group, Aditya Birla group and ADAG.

But on December 1, 2009, the top five were Mukesgh Ambani, Tata, Sterlite, ADAG and Om Prakash Jindal. Three houses namely Mukesh Ambani, Tata and ADAG are common in both the list of top five.

Among the above 25 houses, Tatas, Adani, Aditya Birla, Bajaj, Hinduja, Sriram Thyagaraj, Murugappa Group and Rajan Raheja showed significant increase in terms of market capitalisation between the above period.

The M-Cap of the Tata group, which had the third highest increase among top five houses, increased by 44.3% from Rs 3.14 lakh crore on December 1, 2009 to Rs 4.53 lakh crore on December 1, 2010. Among the Tata group companies, significant increase in M-Cap was seen in the case of Tata Motors (125.4%).

Similarly, in the case of the Adani group, the total M-Cap figure of Adani group companies increased by 119.7% to Rs 1.39 lakh crore on December 1, 2010, from Rs 63,281 crore on December 1, 2009. Among the companies, highest increase in M-Cap was seen in the case of Adani Enterprise (285.3%).

The total market capitalisation of Sriram Thyagaraj group companies increased 101.1% to Rs 21,873 crore on December 1, 2010 from the level of Rs 10,878 crore on December 1, 2009.

Among Sriram Thyagaraj group companies, significant increase in M-Cap was seen in the case of Shriram Transport (107.4%).

Among other groups studied, more than 25% increase in M-Cap was seen in the case of Mahindra, U B, Avantha Group and Subhash Chandra. Only five houses namely Reliance Industries, ADAG, Sterlite, Jaiprakash Gaur and Torrent showed a decline in M-Cap on December 1 2010 from the level of December 1, 2009.

Though ADAG?s market capitalisation was at Rs 1.13 lakh crore on December 1, 2010, it declined by 4.4% from December1, 2009 but kept its place in the group of top five.
