Tatanet, a division of NELCO Ltd, has bagged a multi-million dollar order from Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) to supply Satcom equipment for pan-African e-network project, the company said in a media release.
The network will provide tele-medicine, tele-education, services to 53 member countries of African Union and VVIP connectivity (VoIP and video conferencing) among the heads of states.
Tatanet is a satellite communication project systems integrator and VSAT service provider. Set up in 1995, it has a hub and a VSAT network primarily to provide wireless broadband connectivity to Tata group companies.
TCIL is a government of India enterprise under the ministry of communications and information technology, which is implementing this pan-African e-network project on turnkey basis, funded by the ministry of external affairs, government of India.

The network, when operational, will create a common platform for all African countries to provide telecommunication, tele-education, tele-medicine, internet, video conferencing, voice over internet protocol (VoIP) services and also support e-governance, e-commerce, infotainment, resource mapping and meteorological services.
Tatanet will be building a satellite hub station with a full-fledged data center at Dakar , Senegal, Africa, a studio in India along with other facilities to connect seven reputed Indian university centers including IGNOU, with various specialised courses of study that will cater to the diverse student communities in Africa. The network will also assimilate 12 super specialty hospitals in India , to provide tele-consultation and continuing medical education (CME) services.
The hub, situated at Senegal, will in turn connect s uper s pecialty h ospitals and u niversity c enters in five African regions with one remote medical and one learning center in each of the 53 member countries for tele-medicine and tele-education.
This network will be scalable to support growth of users and applications utilising the state-of-the-art technology with capabilities to integrate with the other compatible broadband technologies.
