Videocon Group chairman and managing director, Venugopal Dhoot on Friday said that the company’s talks with the US-based Motorola for purchasing its mobile handset business was at nascent stages. As is known, Motorola is planning to separate its mobile business from other operations.
Motorola’s handset business is estimated at around $3.8 billion and 15% of the company’s revenues are derived from its handset business globally. Videocon is gearing up to launch its telecom services in the 22 circles for which the company has already received the license. The handset business is expected to compliment the company’s telecom business. The company is eying a market share of 10% when it rolls out its telecom services in August. Dhoot was very upbeat about the 3G services. “Given our tie-up with a number of companies, it would be easy for us to roll out 3G services,” he said.
