Levels of poll campaign in Gujarat hit all time low with rivals hitting each others below the belt. Countering the scathing remarks of Congress president Sonia Gandhi against chief minister Narendra Modi, in which Gandhi said, ?The government that runs the state is made of liars and murderers, the BJP on Sunday hit back saying, Congress gifted Quattrocchi and ?maut ka saudagar? are those who want to save Afzal Guru.
Mincing no words against Gandhi, BJP general secretary and party?s in-charge of the elections in the state Arun Jaitely said, ?We are pained at her choice of words… as it is she who gifted Ottavio Quattrocchi, the perpetrator of the biggest scam in the country. She doesn?t have any political right to call the most honest CM a traitor. ?Maut ka saudagar? are those, who are trying to save Afzal Guru from hanging and protecting the Godhra train fire accused through self-serving committees of former judges.?
Modi also joined in to raise foreign origin issue once again. ?The Congress president has decided to emulate all other Congressmen, whose job is to lie… she is slinging Italian mud at me but it does not bother me. That kind of mud makes me and the lotus only stronger,? he said addressing one of his rallies.
Entering the fray even senior BJP leader LK Advani castigated the Congress on the issue of terrorism saying while several people were killed in terrorist attacks in different parts of the country in the last five years, there was no death in Gujarat due to terror.
?This shows very well where was the fault and who is a better administrator,? Advani said addressing a BJP workers meeting in Paldi area of Gujarat.
?At least 12,000 innocent people lost their lives in terrorist attacks in the country in the last five years. On the other hand, there has not been single death in Gujarat due to terrorist attacks and this the critics of CM should know?, he said.
Advani added that nobody in the country could dispute that Gujarat has made tremendous progress under the rule of Modi. ?The progress made by Gujarat has been appreciated nationally as well as internationally,? he added.
Meanwhile continuing unabated with its attack against Modi, the Congress on Sunday asserted that it would not hesitate in taking action against Gujarat chief minister in connection with the communal violence of 2002, if the party was voted to power.
The hint of action against Modi came from All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Digvijay Singh, who said if the party formed the government after the polls, then on the ?basis of evidence already there? action would be taken against those involved.
?None will be spared, Modi or anyone else,? Singh said in Ahmedabad in reply to a query whether the party would proceed against those responsible for the violence.
