Rashtriya Ispat Nigam (RINL) is looking to double its capacity to 6.3 tonne per annum (tpa) of liquid steel in a phased manner with an investment of Rs 12,000 crore. Bullish on the domestic demand, the company is gearing up to launch the next phase of expansion to 11 mtpa which includes high-grade flat production and cold-rolled green oriented (CRGO) steel, which is currently imported.
RINL CMD PK Bishnoi, at a seminar at Institute of Public Enterprise, Standing Conference of Public Enterprise and NMDC in Hyderabad, said, ?The execution of the project is in full swing and RINL has already completed several works and is progressing towards commissioning,? he said. To achieve 11 mtpa, the PSU would be floating tenders to appoint a global consultant which is expected to chart out a road map to achieve the target by 2015.
?Our expansion drive is to raise the capacity to 6.3 mtpa and would be the first plant among PSUs to bring its expanded capacity on stream commencing from 2010-11. The entire expansion is under implementation in two stages. Under stage-I, new blast furnace, converters, billet casters and wire-rod mill will be commissioned in FY11. The facilities under stage?II, consisting of special bar mill and structural mill, will be commissioned in FY12,? he said.
