Ramco Systems, as part of its CSR initiative, today awarded Ms. Preethi, winner of Gold medal in the under junior girls? category in the Parsvnath Commonwealth Chess Championship with a high-end laptop.
Preethi, a third year Engineering student from Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai has been playing Chess from the age of 10. With very little formal coaching and support, Preethi has carved a history by winning a Gold medal in the XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 in New Delhi.
Chess unlike other sports is participative in nature. A player?s skill improves when they compete with other players in their category. Despite very little financial support and formal training, Preethi has successfully won many awards including Silver in World Youth Chess Championship in 2008, Gold in Commonwealth U/18 category in 2008, Two State Chess championships in 2008 and so on.
An elated Preethi said, ?I am excited and thrilled to have received a laptop with chess software in it. This is a dream come true for me as I will now be able to take my coach (laptop) along every time I travel for a championship. I would like to thank my parents, my college and Ramco Systems for their support and well wishes.?
Presenting the laptop and speaking on the occasion Mr. Subramanian R, Vice President – Program Management, Ramco Systems said, ?Technology has truly bridged the digital divide. With a laptop and supporting software, Preethi will now be able to train herself and compete in international championships with confidence.
