Production at the strike-hit GM plant in Halol is limping back to normal with over 700 of the 900 workers of the plant reporting for work today. On Saturday, the plant ran at 65% capacity manufacturing over 100 cars.
The workers of the GM plant have been on strike for the past 11 days demanding recall of four of their colleagues who were suspended and another four who were transferred about a fortnight ago by the management for allegedly fomenting dissent among the workers.
Speaking to FE, assistant labour commissioner MH Patel said, ?The strike has been declared illegal under Section 10 Sub-Section 3 of the Industrial Disputes Act under which we have powers to prohibit strikes. In addition, in order to prevent any law and order problem, we have also imposed Section 144 under which there is a ban on gatherings and meetings in and around the GM plant.?
