Some of India?s top sleuths will gather here to help formulate a comprehensive policy to deal with the menace of terror funds that have reportedly breached Indian bourses.

A three-day annual conference of directors-general and inspectors-general of police, starting October 3, will focus on matters relating to national, economic and financial security. Organised by the Intelligence Bureau, the conference will be inaugurated by home minister Shivraj Patil. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will address the top cops on October four.

The focus on economic terrorism began early this year when national security adviser MK Narayanan stated that manipulation of stock exchanges was the new modus operandi used by terrorists. The need to focus on financial terrorism has emanated from the fact that some states are still not aware how terror funds are pumped into the system.

Experts from the Enforcement Directorate and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence will take part in the meet to help check manipulation of stock and commodity markets besides monitoring strategic investments of concern in sensitive Industry sectors.
