The Prime Minister?s Office (PMO) on Monday described as ??absolutely baseless and unfounded?? the reports that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh told UPA leaders that he was let down and embarrassed by the U-turn on the Indo-US nuclear deal.
Minister of state in the Prime Minister?s Office Prithviraj Chavan said the reports, which did the round for a while in the day, were not true. ??When the leaders of the Congress and other UPA allies went to meet him ahead of the UPA-Left meeting, the PM only expressed his views on the issue and probably this could have led to media speculations,?? he said.
Meanwhile, Congress also dismissed as ?baseless? the speculation that PM had threatened to quit over the nuclear deal controversy. ??I don?t respond to baseless speculation,?? Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said when asked about reports that Singh has threatened to quit.
