It seems to be the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena?s (MNS) turn to attack actor Amitabh Bachchan. The second issue of party spokesperson Shirish Parkar?s fortnightly magazine Me Maharashtracha, Maharashtra Majha published on Thursday lampoons Bachchan for favouring other states despite being nurtured by Maharashtra.
A cartoon on the cover of the issue shows Bachchan reading a copy of the magazine, which is published in Marathi? with a cover that says, ?Though I live in Mumbai, I am the brand ambassador for Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Kerala.? In the background are two characters who proclaim ?he is not of Maharashtra? and ?we unnecessarily nurtured him for 40 years?. While Bachchan endorses Gujarat tourism, the Kerala government has abandoned its plans to make his brand ambassador for the state.
Bachchan has been under constant attack from the MNS over the last two years, while the Shiv Sena has supported him. Earlier, Raj Thackeray had criticised Bachchan for promoting UP and ignoring Maharashtra. If a personality like Bachchan can favour his native state, Raj had asked, what is wrong if Raj favours Maharashtra.
The magazine also includes an article on Bachchan which criticises the actor for not learning Marathi despite residing in Maharashtra for four decades. Rajnikant is a native Maharashtrian, says the article, but he has adopted Marathi ways since he began working there.
And Sena slams Sania for Shoaib
The Shiv Sena has expressed concern over tennis player Sania Mirza?s proposed marriage with Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik and said that she should not play for India after her wedding. Sena mouthpiece Saamna, in its editorial comment on Friday, lashed out at Sania for choosing a Pakistani as her groom and suggested that she represent Pakistan instead of India after her marriage.
