Punjab chief minister, Parkash Singh Badal on Monday urged defence minister AK Antony to seek his personal intervention for an early clearance to set up a national defence university in Punjab.

At a meeting in New Delhi, Badal informed Antony the state government had already earmarked around 230 acre located in Sector 92 of SAS Nagar Mohali for the proposed university. The establishment of university will attract youth towards military, besides fulfilling the long pending demand of Punjabis to have at least one premier defence institute in the state. He also requested Antony to clear state?s proposal relating to establish a Greenfield Aerotropolis near Ludhiana, besides seeking instrument flight rules instead of visual flight rules.
