Amidst a possible takeover of EDS by Hewlett-Packard in a $14 billion deal, MphasiS, an EDS company in India, sees that its growth plans and investments will continue to be there and will add nearly 8,000 people in the current fiscal. “I don’t see that there is going to be any impact in our growth plans in India and would happen as per our clients’ requirements,” said Jaya Kumar, chief executive officer, MphasiS.
“It is too early to talk about the deal and its say on Indian operations. Moreover, we have our own clients between both of us (MphasiS and EDS) and will be meeting their requirements as planned. We have enough orders in hand to grow further in India,” he said. EDS alone accounts for 43% of the total business of MphasiS.
Responding to queries, Jaya Kumar, who was here to inaugurate the newly set up enterprise lab, the first of its kind in Asia Pacific and to announce expansion plans, said, “India is the market for global majors to grow manifold and we will also grow accordingly. In fact, we will be adding close to 8,000 people in the current fiscal.” MphasiS has nearly 27,000 employees operating out of India, he added.
Earlier, addressing a press conference after launching the EDS Enterprise Lab near Chennai on Wednesday, he said the company has proposed to add over 2,200 people at its Chennai facility during the current fiscal. In addition to that, the company will be also setting up a 1,500-seater BPO facility in Tamil Nadu. “We have identified Trichy and Coimbatore for the BPO facility and we hope to start operations before the year-end,” he said. The company is making an overall investment of $20 million in Chennai and for BPO operations. MphasiS currently has 3,600 people in Chennai.
According to Tom Fabry, director, EDS Enterprise Labs, “This lab is an example of how information technology enables virtual teams to come together in a global delivery model to provide innovation and around the clock support for MphasiS. This is the first of its kind lab in Asia Pacific.”
The Chennai lab is a key component in our global service strategy and is focussed on end-to-end services for non-production infrastructure technology engineering and applications development.
The lab will enable customers to improve asset utilisation, while helping in increasing productivity, supporting the green IT function, and enabling them with speed to market their products.
