mjunction Services Ltd, India?s largest e-commerce company, launched its green sourcing services on Wednesday, while keeping an eye on the policy transformation the government is planning for sourcing.
Viresh Oberoi, junction?s managing director, said while there are a lot of private sector companies looking at increasing green procurement as part of their mitigation strategy to reduce carbon footprint, the government has started working to change the procurement policy of public sector undertakings (PSUs). There are likely to be new guidelines for evaluation of technical bids and emphasis would be shifted from the lowest price procurement to energy efficient procurement.
Sanjay Wadvani, British Deputy High Commissioner, said the British government was helping the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) to formulate a new policy of procurement for PSUs. ? This is a two year programme and we are into the second year,? Wadvani said. PricewaterhouseCoopers is a partner in this programme, he added.
?The Indian government should change its policy from low cost procurement to energy efficient procurement,? Wadvani said.
Oberoi said green sourcing would be done from its buyjunction platform, which has made transaction worth Rs 6,000 crore in 2009-2010. Green sourcing, which would enable one to buy products and services to minimise adverse impact on environment, has been ?co-created with its existing 35 clients from whom buyjunction is sourcing at present.”
Source of electricity, water usage and harvesting, lighting systems, building materials, furniture material, electrical equipment, toilets, sprays and automatic taps, paints and varnishes, effluent glasses and others could be typical green sourcing targets, Oberoi added.
mjunction, which operates metaljunction, buyjunction, coaljunction, autojunction, valuejunction, financejunction, straightline and mjunctionedge, has registered transactions worth Rs 19,648 crore in 2009-2010. More than 85% of our total business has come from metaljunction, coaljunction and buyjunction this year, Oberoi said.
