Seeking to ensure a perpetual pause on the nuclear deal by prolonging its engagement with the UPA, the Left is aiming to hold more meetings of the joint committee that will hold its next round of discussions on October 22.
The Left parties are also planning to ask for a formal assurance from the government that the deal has been put on hold and that there will not be any moves before the IAEA to operationalise the 123 agreement. ??There could be more meetings?? senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury told FE on Wednesday. Yechury?s assertion, a reflection of the Left view, clearly is being seen as aimed to continue the engagement on the nuclear deal with the UPA. As per the agreement, operationalisation of the deal will ??take into account the joint committee’s findings??.
Left circles, however, reasoned at the same time that even talks on the impact of Hyde Act on the deal was incomplete there should be more meetings to complete the agenda of the panel. ??We have to get clarifications on some other issues also. We are yet to discuss subjects, such as deal?s impact on foreign policy and security cooperation with the US,?? a Left leader said.
The Left parties are also unhappy over the delay on the part of government in confirming that the deal is put on hold.
