Criticising the UPA government ?failure? to implement the recommendations of the Sachar committee, the CPI(M) on Monday said the minorities are troubled with the hollow promises from the government on the one hand and the ?Hindu communal forces’ challenges? on the other. Citing the delay in notifying the Tribal Act, the CPI(M) also said that some forces are trying to sabotage the legislation, one of its pet issues.
??The government is developing cold feet. They failed to take any actions based on the Sachar panel report,?? CPI(M) leaders Brinda Karat and Mohammed Salim told a press conference here. ??We have already announced our charter based on Sachar recommendations. We are following it up with the government. We have also approached the Planning Commission and demanded a sub-plan for the minorities,?? they added.
Coming down on the BJP, the CPI(M) said the saffron party was trying to divide and destabilise the society by approaching the Sachar report with communal interests. ??The Sachar report has blown the myth of minority appeasement by presenting scientifically collated evidence, which shows that minority communities, especially Muslims, face deprivation and discrimination in myriad forms. Despite this, the BJP continues to shamelessly level the minority appeasement charge and is seeking to destabilise social harmony by opposing the implementation of Sachar Committee recommendations. We strongly condemn this attempt to prevent social justice and affirmative action for the minorities,?? CPI(M) leaders said. They also urged the Centre to ?initiate concrete steps? to implement Sachar Committee recommendations.
Assailing the follow-up actions report tabled by minority affairs minister in the Parliament, the CPI(M) said the report fell far short of the requirements. Neither have any time frame been set for the implementation of the programmes announced in the ?follow-up action? nor any indication of specific financial allocations to implement the programmes.
