Even though the party once again petitioned Governor Rameshwar Thakur to invite it to form a coalition government with JD(S) in Karnataka, the BJP on Monday decided to bring the battle to Delhi as its MPs from the state would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday and then if needed they would seek time from President Pratibha Patil to request her to intervene.
Alleging ?dirty tricks? being played by both the Congress and the Centre, the BJP-JD(S) combine has also threatened to launch a state-wide agitation and a march to Raj Bhawan on Wednesday, if the Governor failed to invite its leader BS Yeddyurappa to form the government on Tuesday night.
Yeddyurappa met Thakur for an hour at the Raj Bhawan and later claimed that the Governor had assured him that he would send a report to the President in a day or two and that he was satisfied with the numbers that they have.
Yeddyurappa, however, said the BJP would go ahead with ??Raj Bhavan Chalo?? and the agitation would continue till the combine was invited to form government.
Meanwhile, banking on a fresh letter written to the Governor by JD(S) president HD Deve Gowda contradicting his previous one in which he suggested dissolution of the state assembly, senior BJP leader and an MP from Karnataka M Vainkaiah Naidu said, “We are suspicious of the Governor’s intention in allowing installation of a popular government in the state, despite his own acceptance that he was looking for a viable option.” A delegation of the BJP MPs from the state will call on the Prime Minister tomorrow and if required it will seek time from the President and request her to intervene and save democracy, he said.
Making the strategy double-pronged to achieve the elusive goal, the Saffron party has also decided to send a few of the Central leaders to visit the state and address public rallies there. “Our leader Sushmaji (Swaraj) is going to Bangalore on Wednesday will address a series of rallies in the state,” Naidu said.
