Pepper prices strengthened by Rs 200 per quintal in the local kirana market today on sustained buying by stockists on the back of rising demand and estimates of lower output. However, turmeric and jeera remained weak on fresh arrivals pressure.
Market men said sustained buying by stockists on rising demand mainly helped pepper prices to strengthen.
Adequate supplies following increased arrivals from producing region and sluggish demand kept pressure on the turmeric and jeera prices, they said.
Expectations of lower output this season also influenced turmeric and jeera prices, they added.
In the national capital, black pepper added Rs 200 to Rs 34,000-34,300 per quintal.
Turmeric, jeera common and best quality remained under arrivals pressure and shed Rs 100 each to Rs 4,400-7,700, Rs 14,300-14,400 and Rs 17,400-17,900 per quintal, respectively.
