Tata Steel subsidiary Jamshedpur Utilities & Services Co (Jusco), dedicated to comprehensive and sustainable development and management of civic infrastructure and allied services, has bagged a Madhya Pradesh government contract for supplying, laying & commissioning of a water distribution network in Bhopal.

The MP government, under its Urban Water Supply & Environmental Improvement Project (UWSEIMP), plans to meet urban infrastructure requirements for sustainable economic growth. Four cities–Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior and Jabalpur?have been chosen for the purpose.

The pipeline project, to be financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), includes supplying, laying, jointing, testing & commissioning of 82-km water distribution pipeline in five municipal wards of Bhopal.

“This will be Jusco’s second water services contract in Madhya Pradesh. The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) awarded us a maintenance contract for part of the city’s water management system earlier this year,” Rajesh Rajan, head of corporate communications, Jusco, told FE on Wednesday.

The Rs 9.35-crore contract has to be completed within 18 months. While the diameter of HDPE pipes is to be in the 110mm?250mm range, that of DI pipes has to be between 100mm and 500mm.

TCE Consulting Engineers Ltd, a Tata group company, will act as Jusco’s consultant for the Bhopal job.

Jusco has recently signed a BOT (build, operate & transfer) contract with the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority for developing & managing the water supply & sewerage system at Sector V in Salt Lake.
