Cricket is returning free-to-air in the United Kingdom, with ITV network signing a deal and acquiring rights to air the third season of Indian Premier League (IPL), which starts in Mumbai on March 12. In the UK, the rights to air IPL previously were held by pay-TV service Setanta. The deal with Setanta had collapsed last year. In India, the exclusive rights to broadcast are held by Multiscreen Media Pvt Ltd (MSMPL).
Lalit Modi, chairman and commissioner of IPL, said he was delighted that the IPL tournament will be broadcast on a free-to-air channel now onwards.
