Haryana Urban Development Authority has offered eleven sites to reputed educational institutes for setting up world-class educational institutes in the upcoming Rajiv Gandhi Education city, Sonipat, which is envisaged as a hub for higher learning and a centre for research in cutting edge technologies.

A spokesman of the authority said that 1 site had been offered for the institutes of international repute, reputed institutions and private universities on 60 to 180 acre.

On the other 10 sites, the institutes, which had been offered to set up their institutions on 3 to 25 acre each included National Institutes such as IIMs, IIITs, NIFTs, Central Universities, National Law School and Institutions, Research Organisations, institutions run by organisations, educational societies and trusts having track record of over 10 years and institutes of higher education run by business houses having annual turnover of Rs 5,000 crore provided they are run on no-profit-no loss basis.

Meanwhile, domestic steel producer Jindal Steel and Power has invested around Rs 300 crore to set a law school as part of its O P Jindal Global University project and will also approach other corporate houses.
