HCL Security, a 100% subsidiary of HCL Infosystems announced the awarding of Rs 250 mn project in the Hold Bag Screening (HBS) Solution for Mumbai International Airport Ltd. (MIAL).

The HBS will be installed at the International Terminal Complex (Terminal 2) in the Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA).

Speaking on the occasion, Rothin Bhattacharya, Chief Executive Officer, HCL Security said, ?HCL Security takes pride in partnering with MIAL to provide world-class automated security system with Computer Tomography which would not only increase efficiency of the systems but also equip the authorities to detect any possible threats in real-time.?

In this advanced five stage screening system every check in baggage first goes through level 1 and 2 of HBS which has ?Automated tomography? baggage scanning machines. In case the bag is suspected at either of these two levels, it is automatically diverted to levels 3 and 4 for more detailed and accurate scanning of the bag. The system at level 3 and 4 comprises of high-end Computer Tomography (CT) machines called eXaminer, and it is this CT system that is being supplied and integrated by HCL Security.

The Solution provided by HCL Security applies a state of the art continuous helical and spiral scanning technology to create a 3D X-Ray image of passenger baggage by continuously rotating an X-Ray slice through the moving baggage. This 3D CT analysis provides the highest level of automated baggage screening capability and significantly increases the effectiveness of baggage screening for the airport operator.
