The government is set to carry on with the planned five nation naval exercise in the Bay of Bengal desite opposition from the left parties in major towns of the eastern coast.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of an international seminar on Marine Archeology in New Delhi, navy chief admiral Sureesh Mehta said, ?The Malabar Exercise is on and is scheduled for September 4. Around 24 warship from India, the US, Singapore, Australia and Japan are taking part in the naval exercise. The warships include US nuclear carrier and nuclear powered submarine.? The Indian Navy stands to benefit a lot from exercises that we do with various navies, including the US navy, the chief explained.
