Taking a cue from the finance minister?s post-Budget speech, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) has decided to identify five to six social schemes of the government in which it will play the role of an outside organisation to monitor whether the allocated sum is reaching the intended beneficiaries, said Ficci president Rajeev Chandrasekhar at a press conference on Tuesday.
Currently out of every one rupee that is supposed to reach the targeted beneficiary, only 15 paise ends up with him. Ficci in the adopted programmes would work towards ensuring that at least 75 to 90 paise reach the beneficiary.
Ficci also aims to establish a minimum economic agenda for political parties. ?We hope to ensure that the leading political parties can include in their manifestoes a minimum common agenda around the core issues of improving efficiencies in the economy and government spending on programs,? said Chandrasekhar.
By launching a Politics and Governance Series of seminars and discussions Ficci hopes to bring business, politics and media together to work out systematically on what can be a minimum economic agreement across a majority of political parties.
?Ficci wants to be seen as and aligned with entrepreneurs of the future and so we are inviting the brightest and youngest from amongst today?s entrepreneurs to join Ficci. A number of young Indian business and professionals have been invited and are already joining the chamber,? said Chandrasekhar. According to him Indian Industry has reached an inflection point and as a country has evolved from an economy that was dominated by a few private and some public enterprises to a more vibrant one where today?s business leaders may not be tomorrow?s .
Among other issues, Ficci would be working towards strengthening institutions like independent regulators, Competition Commission, pushing for a more plural and inclusive growth model, ensuring that the government programs deliver better, push for more competition and efficiency and avoid monopolistic or cartelization temptations.
