Copper futures rose by 0.19 per cent to Rs 403.15 per kg today as speculators enlarged their positions, buoyed by a firming trend on the London Metal Exchange.
The trading sentiment in copper futures improved after the metal strengthened on the London Metal Exchange (LME) as US consumer confidence rose and jobless claims declined in the world’s biggerst economy, improving the outlook for metals demand.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February rose by 75, or 0.19 per cent, to Rs 403.15 per kg, with a business volume of 4,892 lots.
The metal for delivery in far-month April moved up by 65 paise, or 0.16 per cent, to Rs 406.95 per kg, with a trading volume of 319 lots.
Globally, copper for delivery in three months edged up by 1.2 per cent to USD 7,627.25 per tonne on the LME in early trade today.
