Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati on Wednesday alleged the Congress and BJP were trying to draw political mileage from the Action Taken Report (ATR) on the Liberhan Commission Report, tabled in Parliament on Tuesday.

?The tabling of the Liberhan Commission report along with the ATR is mere leepa poti (a hush-up job) of the matter… The Congress is equally responsible for the demolition of Babri Masjid. The demolition was the result of the active connivance of the then Congress government at the Centre with the BJP. Both Congress and BJP are taking political mileage from the Liberhan Commission report,? Mayawati said.

Mayawati asked the people to be aware of the ?divisive politics? of the Congress and BJP. ?Congress wants to escape from its responsibility for the demolition of the mosque. It is still sitting over the report of the Sri Krishna Commission, which probed the communal riots in Mumbai in 1992-93, triggered by the demolition of the Babri masjid,? she said.

Mayawati said the Congress ?raked up? the issue for political gain by unlocking the disputed structure in 1986 and the then Prime Minister and the Union home minister fuelled the fire of communalism by allowing the shilanyaas near the disputed structure at Ayodhya ahead of the Lok Sabha elections in 1989.

Mayawati questioned the rationale of setting up the Liberhan Commission. ?When the case was pending in the court, people are unable to understand what was the point behind setting up the commission,? she said.
