The railway ministry suddenly found too many of its officers reaching to pull the ?chain? and scamper off ?on deputation? to other government ministries. So, what did it do? It promptly devised a chain-and-iron-ball mechanism to retain talent. The ministry has sent out directives that all railway officials on deputation will have to vacate their railway houses. As iron balls go, the plan has worked like a dream. Departures are down drastically. Railway officials have started thinking longer and harder before making claims about their need to broaden their perspective by working with different ministries. They?re happy to be stuck with their dynamic railway jobs that they hear are taking them places.

Hauled in

With the Budget clock ticking away, North Block has beefed up its security some more. Or so Eavesdropper discovered the other day on a secret mission. The security personnel, apparently tired of playing hide-and-seek with Eavesdropper for weeks together, have switched to a game of catch. It?s a relatively breathless game, and the sessions only take a jiffy. As soon as Eavesdropper ventures close to the hallowed ministry gates, guards throw out the lasso, and that?s that. The Budget remains nicely under wraps.

At the launch of its Endeavour Thunder, Ford thoughtfully had Malaika Arora Khan and her husband Arbaaz Khan over on stage. While it was obvious that their presence would draw shutterbugs, the invited guests took a little longer than expected (even by their relativist standards of time calculation) to warm up to the SUV unveiled, bedazzling them with which was presumably the filmstars? KRA for the event. ?Guys,? enthused Arbaaz Khan, ?isn?t this gooood??

Still no response. For, he had competition for the crowd?s attention from Malaika, who was probably savouring the fact that she herself had none from any other cinema ?item? performer that evening.
