Union Ministers and MPs from Kerala should pressurise the Centre to sanction the Rs 250 crore assistance sought by the state to carry out relief works in monsoon-affected areas, Revenue Minister K P Rajendran said on Monday.
It was difficult for the state government to carry on the relief operations in the affected areas without the financial support of the Centre, he said in the assembly while replying to a calling attention on the necessity to urgently repair
rural roads damaged in the monsoon rains.
The Centre’s response to the memorandum submitted by the state seeking financial assistance was not positive, he said.
Later, talking to reporters, Rajendran said as per the preliminary report, total loss in the state due to monsoon fury was estimated to be Rs 1,400 crores.
