State-owned Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) on Tuesday paid Rs 3,000 crore to the government as a part of its loan repayment. The company had earlier paid Rs 2,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore as repayment of loan in 2005-06 and 2006-07 respectively, BSNL said in a statement.
The company’s chairman and managing director, Kuldeep Goyal presented a cheque of Rs 3,000 crore to the IT and communications minister A Raja.The loan of Rs 7,500 crore was transferred to BSNL as a part of capital structure without any additional cash inflow from the government, it said. BSNL contributed over Rs 12,800 crore in 2006-07 in the form of dividend, license fee, corporate tax, service tax and repayment of loan, the statement added. The company also plans to invest over Rs 10,000 crore for expansion of telecom network in the current financial year, it said.
