Blaupunkt, part of the German-based auto component major Bosch, has entered Indian car navigation market by introducing three products under the umbrella of ?TravelPoint? series of in-vehicle navigation systems.
Indian auto market has a huge potential for navigation systems, said Franc Eric Toma, vice president of business unit after market for Blaupunkt GmbH.
The car navigation systems, which are popular in developed European and North American countries, started gaining customers in emerging markets like China and Korea since last two years and now its spreading in India, he added.
Ajay Sahney, country head of car multimedia in Blaupunkt India, said the navigation market size in India during 2008 would be at 30,000 – 50, 000 units.
The car navigation market size is expected to expand to 4-5 lakh units by 2016, Sahney said.
Blaupunkt already owns a sizeable market share in the organized Indian car audio market with a growth rate of 14.5% while the industry growth was at 10%.
Initially, the company would market its navigation systems in the aftermarket but in later stage, he said it would see options to supply to vehicle manufacturers in India.
? The company has already started negotiations with car manufacturers in India to bring Blaupunkt?s navigation systems as original equipment fitment in the Indian made cars in future,? he added
Blaupunkt?s navigation systems, which comes in three variants in India, are priced at Rs 18,990, Rs 21, 990 and Rs 25, 990 per unit.
