Wary of a ?Congress conspiracy? to scuttle its attempts to form a government in Goa, the BJP on Friday said if need be, the party was ready to parade MLAs that supported it at the Rashtrapati Bhavan to prove majority.
Meanwhile, the BJP-led Goa Democratic Alliance (GDA), under the leadership of former chief minister Manohar Parrikar, met governor SC Jamir in Panaji on Friday and urged him to dismiss the Digamber Kamat government in the state, which has been reduced to minority, following withdrawal of support by an ally and an independent legislator on Wednesday night.
Criticising the Speaker?s move to adjourn the state Assembly on Thursday, BJP chief Rajnath Singh said, instead of scuttling, the Centre was expected to guard against any horse-trading in the state. ?If need be, we will parade our MLAs to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to prove majority,? Singh said.
?Adjourning the House till Monday was uncalled for… The BJP should have been allowed an opportunity to prove its majority,? he added.
After meeting Jamir, Parrikar said, ?We have asked the governor to dismiss the government as it has run into minority … if that does not happen, we expect his intervention in holding Monday?s Assembly session smoothly.?
The GDA demanded the governor appoint special observers to ensure that Monday?s Assembly session?which will meet to discuss the financial demands?be held without any interference. Moreover, the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) has alleged that ?pressure tactics and threats? were being applied on its MLAs to reconsider their decision of withdrawing support to the Kamat government. The party has petitioned to the President and the governor of Goa, seeking their intervention.
