BGR Energy Systems will set up a 1,320 mw (2×660) power project at Bhapur in Orissa’s Nayagarh district at an investment of Rs 6,287 crore. Chennai-based BGR is an engineering, procurement and construction company in the power sector. On Friday, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Orissa in this regard.
Scheduled to be commissioned in 54 months, the project would employ over 1,200 persons directly and indirectly. According to a BGR press note, the project will be implemented by a special purpose company and the state government will assist the project with land acquisition, water and the mandatory clearances. The government is entitled to buy 12-14% of power generated from the plant, at variable cost as determined by the Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission.
